Beck’s Hybrids engaged Keen Project Solutions in design and construction of a new state-of-the-art soybean seed processing facility addition for their site in Atlanta, Indiana. Through extensive collaboration with Beck’s, Keen developed the initial design concept for the facility. Keen’s role included process design of truck receiving systems, a 125,000 bushel bulk storage, seed cleaning, color sorting, layout of packaging systems, and dust, vacuum, and ventilation systems. Additionally, Keen designed the 100-foot-tall, multi-level, custom-built tower to house processing equipment, designed the surrounding PEMB warehouses, coordinated architectural work and construction of the office, research & development, lab, and cold storage components of the project. Keen assisted with all permitting and designed all building foundations and oversaw the design of structures.
As design progressed, Keen executed procurement and onsite construction activities according to the critical path project schedule. Keen self-performed all project management services and provided two-thirds of the millwright crews necessary for the installation of structure, bulk storage, and process lines. Keen staffed the project seven days a week with a rotating onsite management team that oversaw the entire construction process from foundation construction through commissioning. Keen utilized over 30 vendors and subcontractors and worked side by side with Beck’s on their related self-performed scope of work. The project was a huge success and was delivered on time, under budget and with superior quality.
