- Minimum of 3 industry professional references.
- OSHA 10- and 30-hour construction safety preferred.
- Industrial construction experience preferred.
- Effective time management, logical decision-making and problem solving skills to meet all specified deadlines.
- Specialized experience in food, ag, manufacturing and industrial construction is a plus.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, tools and construction equipment involved in construction processes and available in the industry.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Good client management and relationship-building skill sets.
- Safely navigate operating industrial and manufacturing facilities presenting various physical demands and hazard exposures on working surfaces including ladders, platforms, access ways and rough terrain.
- Working knowledge of basic computer programs like Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook and online collaboration tools.
- Experience working in industrial environments and knowledge of materials, methods, tools and construction equipment involved in construction/industrial processes.
- Capacity to handle pressures and demands of long hours and multiple assignments during peak proposal, preconstruction, construction and start-up periods.
- Read and interpret precision technical plans, specifications, blueprints, drawings and design models.

- Frequent visits into operating industrial process and manufacturing facilities presenting various physical demands and hazard exposures.
- Physical fitness to safely navigate construction site conditions and working surfaces including ladders, platforms, access ways and rough terrain.
- Recurrent daily activities: standing, climbing, walking or other means of maneuvering, lifting 50 pounds or more, pulling and/or pushing, carrying, grasping, stooping and crouching, and crawling under or around large industrial equipment.
- Ability to recognize hazardous conditions, warnings and/or alarms in order to protect the safety of the individual and co-workers on site.

We take pride in empowering people to build great things, which is why we train our people to become highly skilled millwrights. The apprenticeship program is a great way to receive an education while you earn a living. Tuition reimbursement is available, and Keen is an equal opportunity employer. Our program is a four-level commitment with 8,000 OJT (on-the-job training) hours and 144 classroom hours per level. Upon successful completion of the program, apprentices will receive a nationally recognized and accredited NCCER training card.
The Merit Shop Millwright Apprenticeship program is the first and only of its kind in the state of Iowa. Our course offers OSHA and third-party safety training, Keen Welding Certification, and a 30-hour OSHA safety course. Our Millwright Apprenticeship Training Program is based upon the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Millwright curriculum and is supported by Associated Building Contractors (ABC) of Iowa and are certified by The Department of Labor.
Gold Medal Winners
Keen has participated in the National Craft Championship over the last four years, achieving three gold medals. Preparing for this event challenges Keen and employee participants to know their trade both in the classroom and in the field. Competitors are tested on a written trade exam followed by a field building exercise. We are proud of our three gold medal winners.
